Default Need help with 86 DX, carburetor car

I have a 86 civic DX, MT. The car will not idle on its own, I can put a little gas in the carb and it will idle until that little bit of gas is gone. The car will start and I can keep it running with the skinny pedal, but it will not idle. I put a clear filter on it and and the filter stays full of gas all the time so no supply issue. Im wondering if there might be an issue with the float or needle and seat. I have checked for vacuum leaks in all the hoses and connections and they SEEM to be OK. Any help is appreciated, or you could point me to another site that deals with 3rd gen carb cars

i would suggest rebuilding the carb, it isnt a hard thing, its just replacing the gaskets, floats, needles and springs. has the car been sitting for a while?
also have you checked the timing? and plugs?
