Default was my civic over priced?

A lot of family and friends keep running their mouths about how I paid too much for my car even though they weren't the ones researching and know anything about civics.
Anyways its an 01 Civic coupe LX, at 48,000 miles when I purchased in southern california for 9,500 (not including tax and finance) - including both would be roughly be a little more than 11,400

well, without finance included, it seems average, you probably could have got a better deal though.

ya I guess its just the year difference (6 years) that has a lot of people saying "what 11,000 for an 01?" but I guess mileage is the key.......

and thanks again, i didnt know if kelly blue book or napa auto guides or the other online pricing was accurate....

Generally, dealerships will say KBB doesn't matter if you're trying to trade in a car - but will follow it to the dollar when selling one. That sounds about right, I know for it being 3 years old when I bought it, my car was overpriced.

NADA guides are even higher if you want to use those to say what your car's worth haha.

I know the State of Texas uses NADA when figuring out how to charge sales tax during title transfer. I picked up my '95 HB for $800 because of a blown head gasket... it wasn't even running. But when it came time to transfer the title and declare the car mine, State of Texas charged me 8% sales tax on $2,382 - because that's how much the car's worth, in their minds. I argued with the lady at the counter, asking her if she would've paid $2,382 for a 12-yr old beater car with a blown engine. She said, "of course not... that's dumb." Then I asked her if she thought I was dumb, which she promptly denied any implications of that. So then I asked her why the records are going to show that I paid $2,382 for a car and was charged sales tax accordingly, for a car with a blown engine - making me look dumb. And the tap-dancing began. I let her off the hook by telling her that I understood that she didn't make the rules... but that this was one of those dumb-*** rules the money-grubbers in Austin came up with... to which she agreed. I was still pissed when I left, but at least a lot of people knew why.

So yeah - I agree that the book is only a guide, but it needs to either be adhered to, or thrown out altogether. Car stealerships, especially should be held to the fire on this stuff. I understand they're trying to make as much money as possible on moving cars, but there's a point where screwing your neighbor should be at least somewhat regulated.
