I would like to know exactly how the engines are different.
Me too! Only then will we be able to really appreciate what Honda is bringing us!

I wonder how the diesel one would perform though

The N22A1 is the latest (i think) turbo-diesel made by Honda. It'll go in the '07 Civic Type-S. Clicky!

I posted this on the new Honda diesel a while back.

We already have the 2.2 i-CTDi engine in our sport, SE, S, ES, and EX 07 civic line up. The reason why they waited so long is because they started from scratch. they watched their competitors struggle for years and had to make it like nothing that had been done before.
The engine itself is made in a revolutionary semi-solid process that gives great stiffness and strength. It is also the quietest most refined diesel in the world. But not only that, you also get performance and it is one of the cleanest in existence meeting all the Euro emission standards.
Kenichi Nagahiro. Cheif Honda Engineer. The man who created the VTEC engine. The man who helped develop the F1 team. The man who hated diesels. Until, that is, he was asked "Could he ever love a diesel?" He replied, "If it is the best". So he set about creating something he fell in love with.

If you ask me taht is the only way to do it, none of this do it once get it wrong, so you go back to the drawing board. Do it once and get it right that is how you make huge profits out of minimum sales

The first set of paragraphs made me think they've just applied 3 stage vtec (found in some JDM D15Bs) to their newer engines, but the second set with the use of the word "continuously" seems to hint at computer controlled valve lifters and timing (hehe I wish, can you say, infinite variability ).
