bottom left edge of the head will be casting numbers for the head to tell you what head it is. alot of thr d16 stuff is interchangeable so its not uncommon to find a mismatched engine or just a totally different engine than what's supposed to be in a civic. they are eithrr swapped looking for more power or someone had engine problems. there's too many variations in the d16 heads to geuss so your going to have to find the casting numbers.

casting numbers will say d16## should be a letter and number after d16. that casting is the head itself the d16 has been used for quite a while. im not honda guru but according to the web there are 29 variations to the d16 engine. not all of them are the same but alot of them have alot of interchangeable parts. if there is a casting stamp with 1 or 2 more digits after the d16 i will be able to help you identify the year civic you need to buy seals for. if the casting on the head only says d16 im not sure i can assist. like on my 2000 the head casting specifically shows d16y8.

ok now as a side note the head itself may be interchangeable with that but combination it probably wouldn't run right without some tweeks. now also that we have verified your engine, were the replacement tube seals too big or too small. depending on the valve cover design how the seals are intended to go in. they will appear a shy too big or too small. they generally dont go in easily and are usually intended to be squished or stretched a bit for a tighter fit.
