Shes a 98 EX D16Y8.

She runs great, but I have few questions that have been bugging me. I have searched and searched, but not found exactly what I need.

1. First gear is really short and the rpms shoot up like a rocket. Is this normal for a 98 MT???

2. Anything over 3200 RPM and the engine sounds like its gonna blown up. LOL Really though, it sounds like its gonna blow and the power dips out. Is this normal?

3. I hear everyone talk about 4000-7500 RPMs and I am not sure my car will take it. Is there a way to make sure I am not gonna kill my car when I try to get the RPMs that high?

1. Totally normal for first to do that.

2. How are you accelerating? if you let the rpms come up really light and slow and l could see how it sounds like its going to "blow".

3. Yes your car will most certainly be able to handle that. i wouldn't try it in 5th gear cause it would take the entire autobahn to climb that high, but 1st through 3rd should be fine.

Are you sure that there is nothing wrong with your car? if not than rev on!

when you say first is really short, do you mean to about thirty? cuz thats where i hit redline. (i have a 96 ex so same drivetrain i believe)
And i think they really open up and sound sweet above 4000, you should be alright doin that.

 

1. A gear ratio is a gear ratio, it can't go wrong!
2. Sir wouldn't have a big hole in your exhaust? The exhaust honging off would make **** loads of noise and lose you a fair bit of power... Simple solution, but chances are!
3. Don't go above the red line and any engine will be fine. So rev away.

Cam, No. My pipes and muffler are in tip top shape. (a wee bit of rust, but otherwise solid as a rock. Just had all of them changed out last year.)

Blinker, I mean when I shift into second I cam going about 15mph. LOL After about 3000rpm in first it has no power. I have only gone to mabey 3700, but didn't want o go much past that until I knew I wasn't going mess something up.

yea your redline is like 6,800. dont go to 7500 on a d16y8

 

my throwout bearing makes my car sound horrible and it doesn't start until after 3k rpm. when you have your car in neutral without your foot on the clutch, does the tranny make a chattering noise?... push the clutch in and see if the sound stops... check all of that stuff.
