I remember when all cars, trucks & motorcycles had a max of 85 MPH indicated. 1984 and prior I believe. Probably some politically correct garbage to protect us from ourselves. On rare occasion I go over 85 but not often.

you think going 150 is fast and a civic not being able to push that fast? try going 190 in a supra tt. heard it wa slike floating on a cloud

yeah dude, listen to misha, the odometer tracks the cars mileage..the speedometer tracks the speed...
and i have never had a prob with a car having a limiter, every car i own i like to do at least one top-end test....and i do them all on this old deserted county road, it had a 5 miles straight-a-a-way and is rarely used....lets see, i got my accord to 119-121, my civic 130, and i havent tested the sol yet....much fun..

Hell, I had a former bandmate with a 70's Benz that impressed me with a speedo that went to 160.
A Ferrari won't hit 150 on the street no matter how big an *** you are, and you could get a Chevy Cavalier
to come close on the Bonneville salt flats.
It's the rev limiter that matters, to keep the motor from self destructing via the lead footed moron who tries.
I've said this before, if there is one thing Honda knows, it's engines (F1, Indy Car, anybody?). Never mind bikes, their bread and butter.
Toyota can have NASCAR (wasteful, outdated technology).

^ I have been going 110 in 5th gear at around 5k rpm I think [thats when my speedlimiter kicks in], how is that going to make the engine self destruct if it isn't going past or near the redline?

^ yeah i am pretty sure on most if not all civic's after `92 they speedlimiter kicks in at 110mph, an old friend of mine had a 95dx coupe and it kickes in at ~190kph which is arround 110mph

I know it does but I'm saying I don't know why my engine would explode going any faster unless I was at or past redline, and at 5k I have 2k more rpm to go before that so I think the speedlimiter should be set higher than 110, unless the stock tires aren't rated for higher than 110 then it makes since.
Also I realy don't know why cars are set that high anyway if the highest speed limit is like 75 so technicaly [sp?] it should be set passave at like 75-80.

Yea my 98 civic goes fatser than 115 but is limited to 115 because ive got up in a straight pefectly flat grade and then a huge hill with plenty of distance. I reached 115 on both but I should of gone faster down the hill but y car was acting weird and then I figured it was governed.....

im not sure when my car tops out at, but i own a 2002 honda civic and i got it to 125mph and i think i could pushed it to 130 or even higher but i lowed down myself and didn't continue to push it, so to tell ya the truth i don't know when my car tops out even though the meter tells me 150mph is the highest. And another time was taking a road trip to idaho (silverwood theme park) and let my girlfriend drive it back home and she was driven it at 120mph. so i don't know what my car goes up to cuz i've never tested it, but i do know whati can handle and thats 125 and i wasn't even at 7000rpm's yet. Also my civic is an automatic if that has to do anything with it
