D15B 96-2001 HONDA CIVIC ENGINE SOHC VTEC OBD2 3 STAGE OR D16Y7 1.6 Engine???????
I just bought a 1997 Civic EX. It came with a 1.6 non v tec engine but the motor is no good and Im planning on dropping a new one in soon but Im deciding on which motor to put in it, either a D16Y7 1.6 Engine or change it up to a D15B 96-2001 HONDA CIVIC ENGINE SOHC VTEC OBD2 3 STAGE VTEC- WHICH ENGINE WOULD BE A BETTER BUY IF IM PLANNING ON EVENTUALLY INSTALLING A TURBO OR A SUPERCHARGER IN IT? AND ANOTHER IMPORTANT QUESTION I HAVE IS IF I DO PUT IN A VTEC IN A CAR THAT WAS ORIGINALLY NOT A V TEC WOULD THERE BE ALOT OF OTHER THINGS THAT GO IN TO IT TO BE COMPATABLE WITH THE CHANGE TO VTEC?
BASICALLY WHICH ENGINE WOULD BE BETTER TO EVENTUALLY GET TWEAKED UP AND MADE INTO A FAST ENGINE, IM NOT TALKING 10 SECOND CAR, BUT GENERALLY FAST ENOUGH TO KEEP UP WITH YOUR EVERYDAY V8S OUT IN THE ROAD.
tHANKS GUYS!

Stock engine in your EX would have been the D16Y8 VTEC. See if you have the VTEC wiring for the solenoid near cylinder 4 on the back of the head. The ECU controls the VTEC function so VTEC engine needs VTEC capable ECU and vice versa. If the car did not have VTEC originally you need to add a few wires from the ECU to the VTEC solenoid to make it work.
