Amsoil Synthetic with their Extended Life filter. Recommended oil change interval for both is 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. I use them both, and typically change at around 15,000 miles. Sorry if I am busting some bubbles, but with todays technology and superior synthetic oils, 3000 mile oil changes are a throwback to the sixties and in all honesty, a waste of money. Flame me if you wish, but I spent about two years reading and studying everything I could get my hands on about engine oil, and I am a believer.

Well for what its worth... I was a general service mechanic at Sun Devil Auto and my father was a big rig driver for over 30 years. We both agree that Mobil1 full synthetic is your best option. Its easy to find, not too expensive and its been around for years. I don't know where these "individuals" heard bad things about Mobil1, but they are wrong. Its proven to be one of the best, right up there with Castrol GTX - the preferred motor oil for top fuel drag racers. As for the oil filter, stick with the OEM. Do not use Fram or Bosch, they are crap!

I'm using fully synthetic mobil1 currently and aK&N oil filter (figuredI would try it out - can't be bad right?... i mean itis K&N after all). Both work great though and i'll be sticking with mobil1 unless they start carrying royal purple locally or something.

These are quotes from the '06 Honda Civic Owners Manual:
[ul][*]Recommended Engine Oil Oil is a major contributor to your engine's performance and longevity. Always use a premium-grade 5W-20 detergent oil displaying the API Certification Seal.[*]Synthetic Oil You may use a synthetic oil if it meets the same requirements given for a conventional motor oil: it displays the API Certification Seal, and it is the proper weight. You must follow the oil and filter change intervals shown on the information display.[/ul]
Some of you here are making statements that are at odds with this. What do you know that the highly paid engingeers at Honda Motors don't? The requirements for drag racing oils are far different from those of passenger car oils. I get my oil changed at the Honda dealership here locally, and change when the information display comes on telling me it is time to change. If you follow this procedure and do not make it to 200,000 miles, it won't be the fault of yourlubrication.

It all depends on how you drive your car. If you baby it, like Old Man River here, then you should hit 200k with no major problems. However, if you drive your car like 90 percent of the members here, then I would highly recommend using full synthetic and changing every 6k miles. Especially if you are making long halls - like you explained before.
Oh and Mr. Gene. I would recommend changing the oil yourself, just to be certain its done correctly. Too many times I have seen too many people half-*** the job and it causes serious issues in the long run. For instance, over tightening the pan plug, or not properly lubricating the small gasket inside the new oil filter. This is vital in making sure there is a tight seal between the block and the filter.

Btw, I used to race motorcycles in the AMA, including Daytona Speed Weeks. I also did my share of SCCA racing, including piloting an original 1968 CooperS mini at Road America. I regularly bomb down my northern Illinois back roads in my '06 LX manual at speeds in excess of 100MPH. I'm no "Old Man River" thank you.
