hmm? was that jagass trying to make a new account or something?

OP: I think you have better chance of your car being stolen with an EM1. I'd go with the EP3, just because I don't see them every day like I see the EM1's.

I see your "buy a nice alarm system," and I raise you an a-good-thief-can-still-steal-it.
If I had an EM1 i'd get the nicest alarm system out there, full coverage insurance, and LoJack. The cost of all of these things make it not worth it... buy a lower model Civic and swap it... problem solved (well at least most of the ordinary attention from thieves is solved).

99-00 si.

The 02-05's are slow.
why is the 02-05 slower? Both models have 160hp but the 02-05 has more torque? I would think that the extra torque of the 2.0L would make daily driving better tha revving the snot out of the 99-00

i'm in canada and there are 01 si models available. I'll be test driving an 01 si tomorrow but wont make any decision until i drive a 99-00.

because they're heavier.

but now new information enters the arena...

you are in canada. the 99-00 Si in canada is equivalent to our 99-00 EX in the USA. It only has 127HP.

and the reason you have an '01 Si in canada is because it's equal to our EX, which has around 130HP with a D17A2 engine.

^ thanks for the info. Its tough to find a summary of the canadian models and the according motor/performance data. Is there a CDN s/i model in the 01-05 bodystyle that puts out good power? I was liking the 160 so now 130 is lame. Is the 1.7 preferred over the 2.0?

For 99-00 the true Si model was badged as an SiR for Canada. There are a few for sale usually depending on what city you're in, most seem to be in/around Vancouver though. That model puts out 160 bhp. There's probably a high likely hood that most you'll find have been beat on pretty hard.

2.0 is preferred over the 1.7.

what you're looking for is a Civic SiR

update: so I test drove a 2000 sir (si in the us) with 155,000 kms. As suspected the car drove very nicely. Nice handling, brakes felt great, i cant say i was blown away by the 160 hp but the 8K redline was nice. The factory sir rims were stolen so the car comes with these ok 11 spoke 15" alloys. My only major hangup is that this body style is a bit dated and the car is 9 years old. Honda been making this body since 96 and is getting a bit long in the tooth. Seller would probably take $6500 CDN.

Option 2 is a 2003 civic si coupe. (ex in the us) 125,000 kms original owner. Nice aftermarket 17" wheels and I also get the factory 15" alloys i could use for snow tires. This car did not drive as nice as the sir but I do like the look of the car a bit better. Seller will take $6700CDN. The price of this car is a good deal, i think the owner could get $1000+ more and I like the idea of a 2003 as its newer than I though I could afford.

So the dilema.... which to get? The 2000 sir would be a fun driver but the 2003 is a little more mature look for a guy in his mid 30's.... option 3 is to hold out but ive been scouring the local marjetplace and these are by far the best deals currently available.

dude if you don't like the body style, don't get one. and i dogwalked an 02 si. They have the same hp, but he had to shift a lot sooner so i stayed in power band longer. the b16 has such a great aftermarket support. the guy wants too much for the siR, but it by FAR looks better in my opinion.... i drive one everyday and love it. plus there is so much available the ek. there's a reason the 02 si is a step child in the honda world. it's the k20 that should have never been made.
