Default 1996 Honda Civic Dx Engine swap

i am starting a project civic and it comes with the D16Y7 and i was wondering what the best d-series or b-series engine swap would be. also the difficulty, costs, reliability and would i have to upgrade the tranny? Im new to civic tuning.

All honda motor's are reliable, it just comes down to what are you building this car for.
Drag
Track
Around town
The B series are the easiest and the top of the list for everyone, but because they are no longer made the are getting harder to find and are getting more expensive.

The D series the the cheapest way to go, they can get some pretty nice number once a turbo is put on.

The K series is by far the best, but also the most expensive.

ya cheapest easiest swap will be a d16y8 but its not much more power... but you can reuse your tranny so one less thing to buy

Well if this is the road you want to take, then take a look at this.
Here you are able to keep your bottom end, only this your replacing is the head.

Someone should do a stick on this as this is asked alot "What is the best/easiest swap for my car". Ok so you have a 96-00 Civic Dx D16Y7 non vtec here are the swap options.
-D16Y8
-Mini Me head swap, this would be the easiest swap IMO
-B16a any OBDII you will need trans, axles, clutch for b sereies, ECU, wire for vtec, extend O2 sensors. So this is a bit harder and cost more.
-B18C same as B16 only you need Del Sol vtec rear mount bracket
-B18b non-vtec same as B18C only need to wire for vtec good swap as well IMO
-B20 same same B18b only you need a B sereies trans and B18b intake mani as the B20 has hood clearance issuses.
-H22 hardest swap to do a civic fabrication skills needed and very hard to keep ac and power steering
Keep in mind this is a very short list of what is needed to do these swaps.
