vtec

RE: vtec
I think it's around 5500 for your engine. The only ones I know for sure, though, are the z6 and y8 (both 4800rpm).
And I have heard it engage on my z6, but it's borderline silent. First, find a nice, big hill (a few miles long if possible). The point of the hill is that your rpms will climb slower; it makes a big difference in hearing vtec if the engine's not flying to redline. Make sure your radio is off (or very quiet) and drive up the hill, keeping the car in whatever gear floats your boat (so long as the car can power its way tothe vtec engagement pointuphill in that gear), just preferably not first or second (since the rpms will climb fairly quickly). On my z6, it gets louder at around 4000, and then at 4800 you can hear vtec engage (listen very, very closely... the engine/intake tone will get throatier). And for the record, I have i/h/e, so that helps amplify the sound a little.
I think once I get a newdigital camera (mine's busted), I'll get a video of the crossover just to shut people up when they say you can't hear it on a D

I never said you weren't right.I said I'm not sure about the d17, and the only engines I was positive on are the d16z6 and d16y8.

anyway, the general consensus is:
d17 (the engine in question): 2700rpm vtec engagement
d16: 4800rpm
And here's the video of the previously mentionedvtec button:

i dont even have vtec and i hear a difference a 5k and feel it to, not much but its there, i never noticed it until i put the y8 intake mani on it,
my friend has a del sol with a z6 in it u can hear it when his vtec kicks in. i can still beat him though, i like the non vtec engines better,
just my opinion
