since it doesnt sound like you have any special tune, i would stick with a stock cam, oem HG.

what is a piston lip? do you mean rings?

i would go with an aftermarket cat if possable

well i assume u will buy the parts and have the mechanic put them in, he was probably explaining piston rings when he said lips, in that case, i would think you would only need new rings and a hone, unless there was a huge engine failure like broken ringlands or a snaped timing belt, and the valves punched a hole in the pistons. in that case, you would need new pistons and rings, the sleeves bored out and honed, and i would also have the rods checked to see if they got bent. as for the cam, unless there was some really bad oiling issues, and it got pitted, i wouldnt think you need a new cam, unless you are going for an aftermarket cam, but with that, you should also upgrade the springs retainers, guides and seals.

there are alot of possablities as you can see, and i didnt even list em all, if you let us know exactly how the engine failed, we will be better able to help you fix it, it would alos help if you told us how much you modded it, ie if u want to go n/a or boosted, and how much power u are looking for etc.

thanks for the reply rampage and all others.
i just bought the car.
its bone stock
when i first bought the white smoke came out from exaust.
i thought it was headgasket.
took it to mech.
while inspecting the car.
we saw white smoke comming outfrom side of the enigine on the timing belt side.
mechsaid camshaftneedsto be replaced.
then we cked the oil.
there was bearly any and the car justhad its oil changed 2 week ago.
the left overoil wasblack.
mech saidpiston lip(ring)is gone and engine is eating up oil and needs to be rebuilt.
now ihavent descided if i wanna go N/A or boost.
but since i have to rebuilt the engine any way i thoght i get someperformance parts installed.
maybei should just do a motor swap.
i donno..
my insurance check comes out next month from the accident b4 i bought this civic.
i got one monthto plan every thing and order any parts i need.
id love to hear some recommandation from you guys.

well since you are undecided on boost or N/A, i would stick with some average compression pistons, (je, arias) and get some fordged rods (TT,eage, crower) if you are going for more power, as far as camshafts go i would either go stock or a very mild cam, because a bigger N/A cam will not work in boosted application. the rest of the valce train may need to be upgraded, but it depends on the cam. in adition i would get the cylenders honed, or bored if needed. I would alsoget the block and head decked, and use some arp headstuds. as far as the crank/bearings, get the crank ground/polished if needed, and then get a correct size set of oem berings.
