Is your Check Engine light on?
Does it work?

If its on, find out why its on.

Limp mode is something that the ECU will do to try and protect your engine if it finds a severe enough fault, thus hopefully allowing you to get it to a shop and get it fixed with ought doing catastrophic damage, but its hard to say if youre actually in Limp mode, like DaOne asked, is your Cel on? then i think we will go from there...

yeah the cel is on but it has been since i bought the car and it is saying that i have many random misfires when i pull the code. i think that i found the problem though and it seems to be that the alternator belt is loose.

Well, it could cause a lack of power if the battery is getting low, It would "starve" the coil and only allow it to fire so many times per second (thus potentially limiting your rev potential) But i dont know if that would throw a Cel code... (especially on your new fangled OBD2 Civics GEEZE! /Sarcasm)
