I have a d16y8 and want to be able to rev higher because this engine revs so amazingly lower then the b series... what would i be safe revving too and what to do to make it safer to rev higher? new valve springs, retainers etc?

Goodness, you really are a newB aren't ya Well, the reason why B series rev higher is because they are dual cams, and make their peak power at a higher rpm band. What you got is a single cam D. Making it rev to higher rpm would be absolutely useless unless you upgraded the cam. You stop producing power at around 6800 RPM, and buying aftermarket springs/retainer just to rev higher would be a complete waste of money.

B's also rev higher becasue their valvetrain is lighter, but if you want more revs, you need a reason to like Andrey said. Different cam, upgraded valve springs and retainers, and you will need to at least shotpeen your rods, if not get aftermarket ones. Stockers are only good to ~7500rpm. If you look at a dyno graph of a y8, the power drops off sharply after 6600rpm.

if you are only gonna get one thing i would at least do the springs or else you are gonna float the valves really quickly....because they cant open and close the valve fast enough...i would get

springs
valves
retainers
pistons while you are there
rods
cam

no. tq drops off on all Ds at 5500 and HP at 6800

theres no point in getting higher powers. it only means that you would have to wait longer to hit power.

Really Nail, stop talking about Ds if you don't know **** about them. Tq peaks at 4600 rpm on a Y7 and hp at 6200.
