Help with determining the problem...

RE: Our new Civic
I couldn't take pictures cuz Dig Cam didn't want to work for me today.
It's not the rings, the cylinder walls look BEAUTIFUL, nice and smooth, not a scrach or anything...so I went to the head...one of the exhaust valves was melted pretty good, nice gap leading right out to the headers. I went to the auto parts place and they can have me two new valves by tomorrow noon. I'm not doing all of the valves because one, they are sealing just fine, and two, these valves cost $20 a piece.
There is only one mystery, a burnt exhaust valve can't cause burning oil can it?!?! I have a feeling that after I replace the exhaust valves that I will still be burning oil. The valve guides seem fine, the valves don't jiggle around in them at all, I can barly feel any movement from side to side. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Once I get it back together, I will do another compression test on the cylinder and see if it reads up at 180 like the others.

RE: Our new Civic
I wouldn't put the head back together until i found what was causing the oil leak. I dunno if this will work, but i guess its worth a shot. Pour oil over the valves in cylinder #3 (from the top of the head). If there is a leak somewhere, you will see it. The only problem i would see from this is that if the oil is leaking into the intake ports you won't be able to see the oil trickle down unless the intake valves are open in cylinder #3.

RE: Our new Civic
Well, I was unable to determine where the oil is being burned from. The only thing I can thing of is the intake valve seals. The compression is awesome in all 4 cylinders now so I'm sure it's not the rings. At least if its the valve seals, I can do that without removing the head again.
The care runs MUCH better now that its running on all four cylinders. There is no more black smoke since all that fuel isn't being thrown into the exhaust on the compression stoke due to the melted valve. However, it still has quite a bit of blue smoke coming out.
My next step is to go ahead and get a set of valve seals and replace those. That will have to wait until next weekend at least. it's the only other thing that would cause burning oil right? I can't think of any other place that oil can be burned from. From my understanding, the two places you burn oil from is either the rings or the valve seals, if anyone knows of any other way oil may be getting burned please let me know.
