Default Cleaning your engine...

I'm curious. Is there a specific way that is better to clean your engine? I've never done it before. I would like to clean out my new cars engine bay, but I don't want to mess anything up. Is there anything I need to cover up or what. If you wondering why I'm still posting questions here about my car after my civic's gone, the guys on the other forums are not near as talkative. I could post this on one of the other forums, and it would take a couple of days to get a response. Anyways, help a former civ owner out. Help me get my engine bay clean...

engine degreaser, steel wool, some elbow grease, and a lot of time and patience.

Jeezis that's a dirty engine bay. Cover up your distributor and alternator and any major electrical connectors. And don't get your serpentine belts all soapy.
