Default building b18a1...need help!!!

I have 99 HB and i want to put in a b18. in my garage i have a b18a1 sitting there w/o a transmission. my neighbor was telling me to build the engine with aftermarket internals but i was more thinking along the line of putting a vtec head on it with a gsr tranny. what's the better idea here, i am going to build the head regardless of which head ill get but i want to keep it NA.

What are your goals for the car? 200hp? 300? thats key. If you want to save money and still have a fast car, I would say screw the build, if its in good shape, just do the ls/vtec with some other mods youll be at 200.

well my goal is to at least be 250, at most 300. money isnt too much of a problem cause im not putting that engine on until somewhere around june or july. its going to be for my little brother who is getting his license soon. obviously i want a relatively reliable engine that wont crap out after an oil change or two. at most i want to spend about 2500 to 3000 and thats including the tranny so really about 1500 2000. would that vtec be a good jump without completely making it unreliable or would it be better to build the ls and just get a simple ls tranny? as you can tell im not to familiar with b series engines lol

Why does a first time driver need 250-300 hp? enjoy the body damage.

for 250-300 your looking into either turbo or nitrous. Which arn't cheap. Either way with those your going to want to build your internals. If you turbo your going to want a ls tranny because of the long gears your going to stay in boost longer. So basically for that goal id say you need ls/vtec turbo. research that.

b18a1 is good for turbo or supercharging, however i would rather just get the vtec head from a b16 or gsr, vtec conversion kit, b16 tranny, p28 ecu with a type r base map to start off and you should have a nice lil setup. your lil bro is lucky for getting a 99 hatch hopefully he takes good care of it...

I think what jprommel is saying is that if you like to cut corners when doing stuff, then this is not right for you because any cut corners will end in KABOOM.
