RE: Biggest Z6 Build ever
Good numbers!
Hey here's a crazy thing you can do if you've got a local dyno...
Put in 10.5:1 pistons! Seriously!! It'll give you more power on the mid to low end and you hit peak boost (only like 7psi) a hell of a lot sooner. Do that and I'll bet you start seeing low 12s, new sleeves would be recomended.
I say this because it sounds like a drag car and not a daily driver, so who cares if it's funked up after a night at the strip?
Sounds crazy I know, but remember 8.5:1 @ 12psi is about the same effective CR as 10.5:1 @ 7psi... bonus is you have more low to mid power with the higher CR pistons and you don't have to wait nearly as long for the turbo to spool. Tuning is practically the same, it's not trickier to tune a boosted high CR motor than a low CR one.

lowering your comp one whole point sounds like it would be realy hard. That means that if u run 10:1 stock, you could run a max of 4PSI cause u can't lower ur comp lower than like 6:1 i don't think, it won't combust. W/o the turbo then, you would have a non working motor.

If your running a lower comp, then can't u run higher boost?

It's just more efficient to run a boosted high comp motor, when I built my last B16 I put in beefier rods and pistons and sleeved the block, then I just slapped on a 14g and called it a day. With a high comp motor it requires less effort on the turbo's end to achieve higher tourque and hp numbers. Matter of fact I was able to beat my buddies' teg and he's running something like a 9.0:1 setup with a Drag Gen 3 kit boosted to 18psi.

fuel quality comes into play at a point though. it gets hard to fight detonation once your final CR gets too high. but most pro import drag cars are running in the neighborhood of 10:1 with 15-25 psi. but they are running on alcohol, so thats why thats possible. but with a properly tuned fuel management, and a good IC and maybe some water/meth injection, a high comp/low boost setup is way better for the street. nice top-end, with some grunt on the bottom too, way more fun for everyday use.
