B16 vs B18
#22
I made a post on my thread asking this question but I figure I'm more likely to get an answer here- What is the necesary stuff to convert a b18b from auto to manual? There's an auto b18 up for $350 on cl. Obviously I'd need ecu and clutch/flywheel and a tranny. But what other technical stuff is necessary? Am I better off just getting a manual one? Or would I save any money converting this one.

Well reading up it doesn't look too hard. Just need intake mani, throttle body, starter, linkage, ecu, harness, and whole clutch set up. It'll add up but if I got it all used it'd probably end up cheaper than buy a manual one.

Hmm well I talked to the guy that has the b18b auto on cl for $350. He put it up a month ago and still has it so he's probably going to take a low offer. He says it has 130k'ish miles on it, I'd rebuild it anyway. Only thing important it's missing is dizzy. Only MAJOR downside is the fact that the motor is obd1. Cut off date for emissions is 95, so therefore my 97 > 95. I'd invest in the motor if I could get it for like $250, and convert it to manual and have it rebuilt by summer. But the emissions is the problem.

I'm so jealous lol. I wish we didn't have emissions, or at least that the cut off date was later. I'm still thinking about picking this motor up. It's just converting it will be expensive, probably close to same as if I bought a manual one. But it's something for me to mess up lol, and I'm not 100% sure I know what has to be switched. But yea big benefit of the auto is the revved, since I would get like a stage 2 clutch, I'd save more money since if I bought a manual one it'd come with a clutch btu still be 1k. I could probably get the conversion at around $750, figuring I could get a b16 tranny for like $250. BUTTTTT emissions is the enemy.
