Default "Oil Cooler"?

When would one need an oil cooler? (ya I know to cool your oil, but is there any need?) I never hear about them at all.

Maybe with a high boost turbo setup?

If you got the money, I'd run it on ANY turbo app that is 100% oil cooled. I'll be looking into one faily soon

You usually want to use them with a turbo set up, but allow me to attempt to explain the theory behind it. Turbos run very hot, they generate alot of heat from running 60K-80K+ RPM. Some turbos use a bearing of oil, some use ball bearings. Either way, you have oil running through the turbo. This oil is going to get hot. Your stock lubrication system is not designed to have the oil run this hot, so you get an oil cooler. The oil is pumped from the engine to the cooler and then back to the engine. The cooler is placed around the radiator and the radiator fluid will absorb the heat from the oil, hope that helped.

in any performance application i would recomend an oil cooler. especially with high revving honda engines where oil is critical to survival.

turbo-temps will cook most oils after a while of continuous running. oil coolers are a big recommendation for boosted apps.
