Default Hypothetical: B18B (non-vtec) into EK?

I have a '96 Si (EX Coupe) with a D16y8 with about 240,000 km's (~150,000 miles) on it. I know how strong this motor is and that it'll run for a while still, but I also know that at some point it may give out on me. I plan on keeping the car for at least another 4 years or so (until graduation....booerns....).

So I was wondering.... I know that there are a LOT of options if my D16 dies, like replace it with another D16 (maybe build for FI?), swap in a B16 (overated swap I think....), put in an H22 (I heard it's lot's o'work, and I need my A/C), or maybe even go for a B20 with a B16 head (reliable daily driver? I wonder how a B20Z with with a non-vtec B18 head would be.... Still 146hp and 136tq? Hmmmm....). But I was wondering what you guys thought about putting in a B18B?

I know that it's not vtec, and there are more powerful motors available, but from an economic perpective, I think it's a pretty good option for a daily driver. I think for around $700 CAD, a Gen 2 (or even Gen 1) with 142hp with 127tq is pretty good. It also leaves room for some future mods if I wanted.

I guess my only concern would be how difficult this swap would be and how much it would cost to buy all the needed extras. Any ideas on how much trouble I'd be getting myself into? I'm guessing I'd need a hydro tranny for the B18, ECU, mounts, drive shafts and shift linkages.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I have a 97 ex, and im building a B18A (OBD0) and there are all types of conversion harnesses, so do let the ECU difference sway you, unless you have to pass emissions. If you have emissions, then you will fail if swap a OBD1 or OBD0 motor into it. If not, they your imagination is your limit. Honestly, if your not going to drop the money on a K20, then definately a B18. B16's are overrated for the price and power. thats just my .02
