Default Best Engine for 1996 Civic DX

I am getting ready to start a civic project car. I will be doing the work myself. I was wondering what is the best engine to put in this car regarding horsepower, torque, reliability, and costs?

There is no "best engine." It depends on what you want to do with it. The old saying goes "Fast, reliable, cheap. Pick 2." Do you want gas mileage? Quarter mile car? Circuit car? A lot goes into planning.

Do a search. You will find anything you need to know about any common Honda swap.

swapping an engine and turboing it is going to break the bank.....

look into b18 motors if you want to boost. Although the engine you have now would be fine for boost. You could also add a vtec head and a y8 intake manifold. For more hp and better air flow. Do some research, there are a bunch of websites that sell honda motors.

Built turbo D-series are cheap and reliable. I say just keep what you have, build it, and boost it.
