thinking of a swap
well the title says it. Heres my litte story.
for hte past i dunno probably 6 months i've been burning oil and i figure its the rings because when my girlfriend was driving behind me she says when i would hit it, smoke out come out. and i went into a shop and they said its probably your rings..checked the oil and there really was not even a drop on it.
so i dunno i was planning on getting rid of the car, but all of the sudden i got to planning out a swap for next year.
the thing is i have an auto, and honestly i think i'd like to stick with it.
** if you have a swap did you do it yourself or have someone else do it? if so how much did you pay?
i think if i do get a swap i would love to boost it later, so i know i should stick with a low compression, but i know that i shouldnt exclude the HC ones.
i dunno if this is making any sense lol i just wanted to write about something and just put my thoughts down.
i have a 2 door ex with a d16z6 the motor does have about 130K miles on it

RE: thinking of a swap
Well now if you want to keep the car then keep it and don't change your mind after you start working on it. I have a couple of friends that have the same setup you have and i have a couple that have a D16z6 in a hatch with and auto tranny. I have seem them after working on them at the track and they run just as well as the other people running the same setup wtih a manual tranny. Now not to say that the auto will hold up to a whole lot of power, but they do handle quite a bit on a stock tranny. If you can afford it go over to a tranny shop and have the rebuild your auto with a shift kit, and you will be fine. As far as the smoke coming out when you get on it, it can be either your rings are worn out which is usual, or you could have a cracked head, cause that is what happened to my old enigne. I would say you most likely have bad rings, and I would say check out http://www.importperformanceparts.net they have a rebuild kit for your engine, both stock and a performance kit. I have a friend that took my engine and he got the performance kit and he is now running over 13psi of boost on that motor, and is very pleased with it, and he is running the stock auto tranny. It is all in how much you want to spend on the car. If you wanted to you could get a swap of any kind with a manual tranny and then have a shop do the swap in with the new motor and swap your car over from auto to manual, but look foward to paying $1000+ for the engine swap and probably another $1000 or more for the swap and parts from auto to manual.
