Default How long can you go on empty?

I have a 95 civic hatchback and I was pretty close to empty this morning when I left for work. I was wodnering how many km you have left when you hit empty.

Unfortunately, once my gas tank is empty, I can't go anywhere. wth?

If you are talking about a gas light coming on, I have only seen that light but once.

However, to put it in perspective, I usually fill up when the needle hovers over E (~250miles from a full tank), I have taken the car, while driving like a granny, to 325 without running out.

when my needle goes in the red zone below E, i usually got like 30 miles left. never really tracked it tho haha

From a full tank, i usually can go 500km on average before having to fill up again. Just this morning i was waaaaay below E but i made it about 45km to a gas station, my needle is a floater too. scary stuff. it would look pretty stupid for a lil civic to be on the side of the road out of gas.

I've gone about 30miles on the highway on cruise control in my '99 Civic EX after the light started to come on. The light is not all that accurate to go by though as is comes on and off gradually and more so when making right or left turns. I'm sure there was some more gas to go further but I pulled over because I don't trust the light fully and played it safe. BTW I managed 41mpg that trip, all flat open highway on cruise control. Probably could have been closer to 42+mpg if I really drained the gas tank lol.

Also a special note. Its not good to let your gas get that low because all the gunk & impurities get into your exhaust system when its less gas to burn

WTF. Stop posting in tech sections until you stop making a fool out of yourself. The crap at the bottom of the tank gets into your fuel system and can clog your fuel filter and sometimes injectors. Also another reason to not run on empty is to not have your fuel pump suck up air and to not have it overheat. It doesn't get that hot, but it is cooled by the fuel around it and the more heat it gets the less it lives.
