If you "Chip" the ECU you are adding a "chip" to it. That chip contains a program. Like Chrome, Turbo Edit, Neptune or Uberdata. Hondata is a program that can be tuned, but it wires into the ECU. Basically, if you chip the ecu it makes the stock ECU become adjustable. Its the best way to do it, and its not too expensive if you go to the right place.

so turbo edit, crome and uberdata are the same as hondata, basically a chip that goes with ur stock is ecu that allows it to be "tunable", then the tuner will tune it to the properly fuel air ratios with the turbo??? thanks for clearing that up pete

well, if i understand a bit of this thread, i should rip my obd2 ecu out, buy a chipped OBD1 http://hondata.com/sproducts.html and then think to buy some other hardware (cold intake, exhaust header, catback exhaust, aggressive camshaft, etc). isn't it?
to play with forced induction, a chipped obd1 comes 1st even than the turbine it selfs, lol.

my car is a 97 civic ex coupe at(d16y8 sohc vtec)
ps: sorry about my bad english.

what do people do if they can't convert back to obd1 in their state legally? Is their only option to find a guy to pay off for an inspection sticker if they want a reliable tune?
