Default engine management light problem

hi, ive got a 96 honda civic 1.5 ls vtec which is a great car, but been having some problems lately. the oroange management light keeps coming on and stays light until i switch the engine off. it is intermitently coming on,but also seems to effect fuel efficiency i think? any ideas on how i could test this or recommendations on what i could do to help it. Ive also noticed that it isn't idling properly as it revs high and low. Any help would be great as taking it to honda dealer is hardly worth while if bill going to be close to value of car. 96,000 miles. Cheers, patrick

Go to autozone and pull the code, or you can pick up a reader (one with erase capabilities) for like $40 <-- second best investment I've made; Chilton's manual is #1.
