After you clear the ECU, does the CEL turn ON and then soon turn OFF if you turn the ignition key to ON but don't start the engine?

I just went outside to check and I cleared it again and when I put the key to the on position the CEL light came on and stayed on. After a couple of minutes I started the car and it did the usual. The CEL came on after five seconds.

Well, unfortunately, I fear the ECM may be bad. Unless replacement of your battery cable fixes the problem, which I think is unlikely, then you may want to replace the ECM. If this is the route you decide to take, the least expensive way to do this might be to pick up a used ECM from a salvage yard. Just be sure that the ECM matches your Civic.

Yes I guess I'm going to have to bring it in. I tell you between this car and a 97 civic I got they have not held up like they are supposed at all. I had a 95 civic ex and never had aproblem with it at all. Thank you for all the advice.

so after bringing it in to the delaership did they explain to you what was going on and why you couldt erase the codes

Well I will know the answer to all this tomorrow as I'm bringing it to a repair shop but not honda because I don't haveall the money they will charge.The people I'm bringing it to are very capable though.
