but having it listed under remote entry sure is misleading.

I was finding a real lack of info on specifics as far as what radio will work with 96-98 keyless entry. I've been doing a lot of research today, and I'm coming up with a lot of helpful info. This site shed a lot of light for me: http://www.handa-accessories.com/civic98.html

Okay what specific radio will work then, part #?
CD Player: P/N 08A06-361-210 OR
Cassette Player: P/N 08A57-S01-100

Keyless Entry for HX and LX 96-98
Factory Radio must still be installed for keyless entry to work.
All of the HX and the LX models have the receiver built into the factory radio. There is nothing to install into vehicle. Simply program the remotes to your Civic by turning the ignition on and off and pressing the lock/unlock buttons.

Well, well... I guess that you really do have the reciever built into your radio. I don't know what the part number is. It's not a CD or cassette player though, those are both seperate units that mount below the power outlet. Do you have your factory radio or what?

As long as it's from a 96-98 you'll be fine. May as well get one from an EX just to be sure it has keyless. Then you have to get remotes with the right FCC id. That's the only time part numbers will be important.

just for future reference. Finally got a AM/FM radio out of a 97 Civic, a remote that had the "Option" button on it, and a "Y" harness. Got ever finished yesterday, and I now have a working Keyless entry system!
