Default B16A2 ecu

my 97 civic has b16A2, and runs retarded slow. I've changed out o2 sensor, have bought spark plugs and planning on picking out a distributor kit as well. So far, that's what Autozone says I "NEED" . my ecu says P72, which a friend of mine has confirmed thats a GSR ecu since he used to have it. What's the ecu code I need?

I called the guy who sold it to me. He says with the 1997 civic you need the P72 ecu in order for the swap to work. He also says he's never changed distributor on engine. autozone ran a test, said i needed new o2sensor, spark plugs, wire set and distributor kit

Well...... sort of. The P30 was the ECU for the OBD1 Del Sol VTEC. I'm assuming since this is an OBD2 car it's an OBD2 swap out of an Si, which uses the P2T. But you would need a conversion harness for that, since the P2T is an OBD2B ECU, and the car is OBD2A.

Find out if the swap is OBD1 or OBD2, what engine harness was used, and what OBD ECU it is (the P72 came in OBD1 and OBD2 versions)

is the ecu obd1 or obd2 for the SIR that came with it? you can tell by there being 3 plugs into the ecu or 1 plug into the ecu

1plug=obd1
3plugs=obd2a or obd2b there's a difference by years

on the distributor you can tell if its obd1 or obd 2 by the amount of plugs also.
on obd1 dist has 2 plugs that plug into the harness or the obd2 dist. has 1 plug into the harness

but the 99-2000 civic si computer is a P2T FYI i jus took mine out of my 99si for my GSR swap im using an obd1 P72 with a conversion harness to go from obd2b to obd1

ive got my stock computer and a few extra computers laying around also

ive got a p72,p05,p2t laying on the floor of my si right now. i bought a used one and it was dead (not useable)

so im goin to convert mine back to obd2 by putting the 99-00 si oil pump on my obd1 gsr motor and using the CPS and it should start right up. but the thing is for me is that i dont want to pull the crank pulley off and the oil pan also.

The 97 uses the obd2a the SI ecu is P2T. The gsr ecu must be a obd2a for it to work without having to re-pin you harness. I have to deal with doing that right now and its not the funnest thing in the world to do.
