97 Civic EX OBD II COde PO172???
System too rich? What do I do now? I used a scan tool to find this particular code, it also says a PO170 is pending...
Have replaced cracked exhaust manifold, fuel and air filters, changed oil, new plugs (not wires), car runs very good but does seem rich-smelling and weak as far as power output (my 92 Toyota pickup is stronger). This tankful has a fuel injector cleaner additive, about halfway used.
All vacuum lines seem to be fine. Injectors are clicking away happily.
I tried reading every post on this site this morning related to trouble codes, ODB II, CEL, etc. for about 3 hours. Can anybody give me some guidance as to what I can do to figure this out? I need to smog the car soon. Thanks,
Jeff

RE: 97 Civic EX OBD II COde PO172???
I finally got to the root of the problem! After checking the O2 and MAP sensors good, I decided to take it to the local shop. I gave them a detailed description of everything I had done ot the car, then mentioned that the ECU was from a 98 Civic. I called Honda and they told me 96-97 Civic EX automatic ECU's work for me, a 98 would not. The mechanic confirmed this as well, got one from a boneyard and installed it Tuesday. We got the car back Wednesday and it runs well with no codes, and passed smog no problem.
Turns out the guy I bought the car from got the wrong ECU but didn't know it because the car ran fine for the few miles he drove it and there were no codes yet (stolen car, he got it back and bolted on a bunch of parts to get rid of it, did not drive it as he has about 15 other cars that are way nicer).
At least I have my own OBD II tool now.
