Default XM Radio in EX

Hi, forgive me if this question has been asked before.

I have recently bought 2007 Civic EX USED with approx. 5,000 miles. On my audio it says that it’s XM READY, but when I called the dealer he told me that I still need additional hardware. Is that true?

I was under the impression that since its XM READY I should be just able to call XM and get the subscription. Also, if that's the case how can I get the XM radio code? On XM's website it says tune your radio to channel 0, but the XM push button on my radio doesn't work at all. Please help!!!

xm ready means that you need the honda xm radio box and the antennae, it gives a nicer appearance to do it that way because your dash is cleaner but it is much cheaper to go to a retailer and buy an xm radio and to have it hardwired to your car. the reason nothing happens is because you dont have anything hooked up to the jack in the back of the radio.

i'd go aftermarket..the honda piece sounds like crap and is uber exspensive..iv'e pulled alot of the factory pieces out of customers cars .if you want aftermarket and dont want a seperate contorler get a deck that is xm ready youll still need a brain and antennea but it will be cheaper than a honda one

true aftermarket is a great idea because of all of the extras you get, but the 06-07 civic dash kit looks like poo

Honda piece is not that expensive if you buy on line. Its also nice because you don't have a head unit stuck in the glove box or mounted someone inside the car. I have seen the xm receiver for $134 on line, you will need the attach kit (Cable) and antenna as well. If you do a search you will find several dealers selling online.
