It depends.

One 12" Type R in a properly built ported enclosure will easily walk all over two Type E subs if their enclosure isn't up to par. Same can be said about the Type E subs!

Sadly, this is all install dependent!

what if the rms on the amp is perfect for the sub rms (perfect setup)
and a good box with the right cubic volume? then which would be better

Of both setups were done properly, my vote would be for the single ported Type R since they are more along the lines of great sounding SPL subwoofers. Plus, with the single Type R, you could always choose to add another one later on!

i say get the type r. the type r has as much rms watts as 2 type e's together. they will probably not sound that different (louder). and you will have more trunk space.

i would get the type R and later on if you want more you simply buy another sub and a larger amplifier for both of them.....
it all depends how much trunk space you want to keep!!!!!
if you still put crap in your trunk then DEFIANTLY the single R.

but please any audio forum will tell you the WHAT HITS HARDER is practically impossible to verbally agree on.LOL

everything depends on your amp size, the box, ports or not. you cant really say whats going to hit harder.
