If you don't listen to rap, 10's will probably be fine. I've noticed that my pair of 10's has been way more than enough for any type of rock. If you listen to rap/hiphop and all that stuff you'll probably want 12's.

I'm not sure what the advantages/disadvantages of having single or dual ones are though.

I think the Alpine Type Rs sound great, especially for their price! I don't own any, yet, but that may change soon.

I had the pleasure of hearing an Alpine 12" Type X in a 2008 Civic Si and I was truly impressed with the output from a single 12" sub off of a Memphis MC 1.1100. The dude is running a dual battery setup because he is having a hard time obtaining a HO alternator.

yea but in rock if you have the bass up too high it drowns everything else out
the bass in rock isn't suppose to stick out too much

with rap, bass is pretty much the whole thing, besides the rapper, but there's so little going on in the music (rock has more musical lines usually) that you can hear everything just fine with the bass up loud

true, but my original point was that if he doesn't listen to rap/hip-hop at all, then 12's are probably unnecessary. If he listens to both, then yea, get some 12's, a bass **** and tweak that shiz.

lol, my stereo has a built in bass **** for the subwoofer, and I always leave it all the way up too. lol

if u dont want to be offended - read no more please

look man most of these guys think they know car audio but they have no idea.

quick little detail about what u asked
single 10" sub - Tight Bass going to add a lot to a system without a sub a cheap 10 will sound better than a cheap 12
single 12" sub - Going to be louder (NOT HIT HARDER) and will also player a lower note (HIP HOP)
If u get 2 of each the actualy Loudness will be much higher and they will hit a bit harder. CONE AREA IS WHAT MAKES THE LOUDNESS when it comes to size.

i listen to a TON of hip-hop... but i also listen to ska and everything from whitney huston to the beatles and bochelli. I chose 2 10" in a sealed box. my system is made for clean crisp sound quality. if i had to do it over again. i would go with 1 12" SR (the next model up from mine - the guy whos finished 2nd at the world finals of meca runs them.. he ran my model the year before)

IF u want your system to just be loud get 2 12" type Rs and put 1000wRMS each into in a ported box. u wont get anything nearly as loud for the price that wont sound like complete crap.... kicker would be your next best bet but imo a cheap kicker sub is pretty much for looks..... the blow (no pun intended)

1K watts each.... hell no man! 1K watts each to a type R will blow them!
and i hate 10s sealed! i built a sealed box for my 2 10inch reaudio subs and it sounded so horible i ported that sucker so quick and then i was really happy with the output from them.
ps hope you werent talking about me

yea if you listen to rap. i think that it should be more vioce han bass cause the bass in rock is heavy, so wenever you hear the bass you know its loud. instead with reggaeton and hip hop/rap the bass is like one of the most inportant things in the songs.
