Default Sub Size?? HELP

I have a 1995 honda civic coupe and I am wondering what size of sub to put in. Would one 12" be too much, should i go to one 10" or two 10"..... anyone with any recommendations please let me know. I have never had a vehicle with anything other then stock speakers so i dont need to be BLOWN away either. If it makes any difference, i tend to listen to rock/metal more then anything else. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

I don't know about your trunk size might be the same as mine as you can tell i am a noob to. I have a 00 civic Si and i have two 10's in a not ported box because i prefer poppy bass instead of that drwn out bass that a ported box gives. I kind of wish i went with one ten or one 12 it takes up less space and with two speakers you have to accept the fact that you will not have easy access to the spare tire or anything else you have stuck down there with the spare tire. I am content with the two tens i have but if i had it to do over again i would go with one 10 or even one 12. One the upgrade note change out your factories to it will be a big difference. I have two amps in my car one four channel amp to run mids and highs and one two channel amp to run the two 10's and a one farad cap to keep the power up and not draw off from the main battery or alternator..

if you listen to a lot of rock, then you want to stick with a smaller sub, so go with one or 2 10s. they keep up with the fast beats of rock better than bigger subs.

i have a 95 coupe as well. and i have recently got a 12" 500watt RMS sub, for it. i can say inside of the car it is mental. outside you cant really hear it. the car just vibrates. the boot holds the sound well. im still playing around with the size of the port hole to make the sound better, but for a coupe id say get at least a 12". i also had a 350watt 10" sub which was a crap brand. i could just hear the bass.

i wouldnt go with 2 subs, because you will need one big *** amp to run both and it will cost alot more. imo just get a 12" with a sealed box as it will make it more punchy. get ported or bandparse if you want low down bass.

Sub size has no bearing on how they can handle fast beats. The material that the speaker is made of is what does it.

It is not one single material it is the sub as a whole. Subs that have lower fs figures are better for all around sound quality and fullnes of music. The high fs subs are aimed more towards loudness. The displacement alone has nothing to do with the actual sound of the speaker just the loudness. The reason alot of people think that larger subs are not as quick to the punch is because a majority of people that are saying this by low level equipment. Low level equipment and lower level companies use the same motor for all sizes of subs in a certain line. Like take the older MTX Thunder 4000 series subs, the 10 inch thunder 4000 sub uses the same motor, voice coil length, voice coil diameter, and same magnet size as the 15 inch thunder 4000 sub. This should not be done, each speaker should have it's own parts tooled for it's needs.

To the topic starter, go with a single mid to upper level 10 in a properly built vented(ported) box. A IDMAX10 from Image Dynamics, a 10 inch XXX from Resonet Engineering, or a JL Audio 10W6V2 will be great. Make sure to power it with in the upper half of the recomended rms power range.

Yea, my avalanche 15" sounds "poppier" then alot of sealed 10" setups I'v heard. You get what you pay for.
