sub fuked?
anybody have any clue what could be wrong.. i was just drivin normally the other day and my sub cut out.. i thought it was the ground.. guess not.. k but now when i hook everything up i get no power to the amp.. i tested the volts to the power wire alone it was 12.56 and then when i put it in the battery terminal for the amp it goes to like .5.. all the fuses are good, grounds solid, everything shoud work tip top but the power just stops at the amp and does not come out.. is my amp fuked or is there otehr things to check and fix... any help would be apprecieated guys

RE: sub fuked?
so the fuses ON the amplifier are good? and your front power wire fuse is good? dont just look at it.... check with a fuse tester or a test light......
but to check the subwoofers.... use a OHM load tester and see what ohm load they are.... if ya fried the subwoofers it COULD have fried the amplifier... but HOPEFULLY its something small like a cracked fuse OR it MAYBE a loose solder joint on the board...... but check the fuses and subwoofers ohm load first

RE: sub fuked?
yeah i checked the fuses and i even double checked with a fuse testr and a test light haha.. i can't figure it out and its weird cause i did not even have them pounding or even close to bottoming out.. i mean its a really old amp now but i havn't really had any problems with it so far.. i don't make sense of it cuase there is a steady 12 volt current going to the power wire UNIL i slide it into the slot.. then all power is takin away.. i don't understand where i can check.. i know the power wire isn't the problem cause i checked it at every spot to make sure all the fuses were good.. and my dad said there could possibly be and internal fuse inside the amp i opened it up and i couldn't find anythin tho.. and i can't see how somthing fried cause it would most likely make a bit of a mess and the amp looks brand spankin new inside.. the weird thing is i plugged up my friends brand new v12 to them and it didn't even power up.. so could it possibly be sumthing under the dash causing this problem (i just installed a new one last week) and where could i check.. i figure im gonna try plugging my amp into a buddys system with there subs and wireing to see if it powers up but im sceptical.. the only audio place in town is run by a complete *** hole and would charge me to even look at the amp and besides he said theres no way he will repair amps at his store.. i don't know if my dad has a ohm load tester... he has a lot of electrical testers is this one common or only used mainly by electritions or audio techs..

RE: sub fuked?
so let me get this straight... your main power wire when its NOT connected to the amplifier it has power BUT when you conect it to the amplifier it looses its power?
i dont see how thats posbile... are you grounding the same source when testing between the two? like maybe your ground wire is coroded realy bad or just not grounded in a good spot...
also just cause something has 12volt on a tester doesnt mean its geting proper voltage flow.... you can get 12volt signal from a large 0gauge wire the same as a TINY 24gauge wire which is like a hair
and wheres the power wire conected to? the fuse box or battery?
somethings up... thats for sure... but if it looses that much power id say its in your power wire.... check all joints in the power wire maybe ya dont have a joint or fuse conected all the way and its VERLY TOUCHING....
cause im preaty sure if it was shorted out or pinched in 2 by something it would blow the fuse... if in doubt about the fuse... replace it with a new one just to be safe... ive had the problem before with fuses that look fine and work fine be messed up and if i hit a bump it would cut off cause it was cracked or something... i dont know i just threw it away!

ya defientely double check your fuses. at my work i remember one amp that would not power up, and looking at the fuse it appeared good, but it had actually split at a place that you could not see.
but also I would check the remote wire just to make sure thats not the problem, just use a short piece of wire and go from the power to the REM input, if it powers up then the remote wire is you problem, if it still doesnt then at least you know thats not the problem.
also make sure that where the wire goes through the firewall there wire did not get cut or stripped, cuz if it is stripped and grounding on te firewall, then the multimeter will read 12v, but there will not be enough current to power the amp

and yeah the ground stays in the same place for the meter.. and we tryed it aslo where the sub is grounded..
the power wires connected to the battery with a inline fuse and then straight back to the amp and the amp has a 60 amp fuse in it as well
and with the inline fuse we tested both sides so i don't think its the fuse but i could try replacing that as well but i don't think thats it..

RE: sub fuked?
ok im done work for the day and i had a nice little snack of pringles now im gonna go out and view the power wire path and wehre it comes the the fw and ****.. make sure its all tip top i really hope its not the amp.. but *** with my luck it will probably be.. hah

RE: sub fuked?
ok me and a buddy got it fixed.. it was the stupidest ****in thing.. for sum reason the power wire wouldn't connect to the battery clamps so we just cleaned it all up and put it back together and the ***** workrs again haha simple as that.. thanks for all your tips tho guys

RE: sub fuked?
where the wires coroded or something? or did the wire just come loose from the terminal?
if they where coroded id buy some DIEELECTRICAL GREASE and put it all over the wire strands..... will help it from coroding again.....
