Does anyone know where to get a roof mounted antenna for Xm Radio. The dealership wants to mount the antenna on the inside of the windhield, it got crappy reception so i made them take it out and they said it's not possible to mount an antena on the roof you would have to order the car with xm in it to have a roof mounted antenna

I just checked H and A Accessories, follow the links to Honda, Civic, year model, electronics. They show a link for installation instructions on the '06 models in a pdf file and that clearly states that the antenna is supposed to be mounted on the upper right corner of the windshield so the dealer was only following the directions on the install.

Having said that, I don't think it's "impossible" to do the factory style install on the rear center of the top of the car. It would require pulling the headliner and drilling through the top of the car to route the antenna lead, something I'm more than certain "I" wouldn't want to tackle.

Sorry to hear about your reception problems. One question I have is, where exactly did they place the antenna? The pdf directions state that the antenna should be located inside the car, 3mm down from the top of the windshield and 10mm in from the right side. There is also a cover seal that's applied to the outside of the windshield. I'd imagine that it's purpose is to protect the double sided tape that secures the antenna from UV sunlight. If they did that correctly, I'm not sure what to tell you. I do know that satilite radio needs to have a clear sight line to the satilites themselves or it won't get reception. Where do you live and what kind of terrain to you normally drive in. I've got Serius radio and recently took it with me on a trip to California. I spent some time up in the Sierra Nevada mountains, west of Lake Tahoe and also on Hwy 1 between Monterey/Carmel area and Cambria. I had several times when I had momentary loss of signal but it never lasted more than a couple of seconds at a time and was fine otherwise.

Sorry this probably isn't much help.
Good luck,
Steve R.

You could always run it to the trunk and put it on the outside of the trunk lid.

the other way to get it on the roof is to have the windshield pulled out and then run through the urethane they use to seal it to the car. i would just run it to the trunk, or leave it on the dash in the center (where mine is in my car)

Oooo, good point. Now that you mention it, the trunk lid is where the antenna is usually mounted on the S2000. I see no reason why it couldn't be put there on any other Honda sedan or coupe.
