Reducing road noise

Reducing road noise
Not sure if this is the right subforum, though the intent is to improve the audio rig I'm working on.
Anyone got any good pointers for reducing road noise / vibration for a relatively inexpensive price? I went to Home Depot yesterday and attempted to get adhesive roofing vinyl that some have said works great, but they said it's a seasonal item. I may order some online. While I'm going to dynamat my front doors, I was thinking about using some cheap weatherproof roofing material on the inside of the rear doors and in the trunk, but I'm not sure if anyone has any pointers beyond that? Does anyone ever do anything to their wheel wells?

I hate to break it to you, but if your goal is to reduce road noise, you are going to be highly disappointed if you just use sound deadener. You need mass loaded vinyl to block the noise from coming through the sheet metal because sound deadening material just changes the resonance frequency of your sheet metal when applied directly to it.
Also, DO NOT use cheap peal and seal stuff from your local home improvement store, edead v1, or fatmat as they are all the same crappy asphalt based deadening materials that release fumes for MONTHS. The cheapest deadener I recommend you using is RAAMmat. For the more expensive stuff, I highly recommend Second Skin, HushMat, Cascade, or Dynamat. Second Skin also makes a mass loaded vinyl layer and sometimes you can find the lead loaded submarine deadening on eBay.... Only problem is it usually costs more to ship the submarine stuff than you actually pay for the product!

Gotcha, those are some good pointers. While I only planned on doing dynamat on the front doors, maybe I'll dynamat the trunk and focus on securing and light rattles with zipties, as seen in another post. That's a good point about the stinky *** home improvement materials though. Maybe I'll just save up. The only thing I'm curious about at this point is whether I need to rip out my carpet to do any type of serious dent on the sound. It sounds like sound is coming from all angles, particularly doors and the floor board. Ah hell.

All dampening material is not created equal. Most are asphalt based, you should look for one that contains butyl it has a higher heat tolerance. Check out this comparo.

Take out all of your interior, and remove your door panels.
Install dynamat on every square inch of your floor and inside your doors as well as any outer panel you can get the stuff on inside the car.
This makes a night and day difference. It's expensive, but well worth it in the end.
