New Trunk Build/Setup

RE: New Trunk Build/Setup
Yeah it hits hard!! Even though the Type-R sub is supposedly a 400 RMS sub I'm powering it with 600W RMS. I don't even have the gain all the way up but if I wanna turn it up man is that thing loud, but not like crappy loud, it all sounds amazingly clear, no distortion whatsoever. I don't think I've ever even heard speaker distortion on my system, never turned it up loud enough, it'd probably blow the speakers and my ear drums ha ha.

RE: New Trunk Build/Setup
So yesterday I worked on the cover panel for one of the sides. Decided to go fiberglass. I Masked off everything and then use some cotton (t-shirt) and stapled and hot glued it over the spot where I wanted it to go. Then lay some fiberglass on top of that.
So here's the work so far, still gotta trim (gotta get a dremel) the fiberglass and then maybe sand it a little bit and then carpet it.
So let me know what ya think. I'm pretty new at fiberglassing btw.

RE: New Trunk Build/Setup
doesnt look to bad.... but why the lower middle arch? j/w
looks good for your first glass job...
alittle tip tho aluminum foil works great as a release!
my first glass job i did my trucks floor in the back and i taped half of the floor and mostly foiled and taped gaps 2 layers of foil and the foil side came out super easy, but the tape side was a PITA! like crowbar needed to pry loose from floor PITA.LOL
also for your trunk setup i would sugeest either slaping some black carpet behind those Aarm trunk supports or paint that back area flat black... then the opening wont be so visable....
now get out there and enjoy sanding your @ss off.LOL afew tips, wear sleeves/breathing mask, and a motorized sander knock down the big ruff spots and slap some bondo all over to help smooth it out. if your going to carpet it its not gotta be perfectly smooth but you dont want any wrinkles or hard dips cause it could show thru the carpet when its glued down...
good luck.
ill be doing my own fiberglass work later this year hopefully if not in the winter... nothing to fancy but something nice will pop in my head when i start piecing it together....

RE: New Trunk Build/Setup
The middle arch was to help it angle out because if I just did a straight line, in order to keep the cotton tight when I started it would have probably crossed in front of the trunk arm hole. Look at the pics and you can see what I mean. Plus it's really hard to do stuff like this without you know speaker rings or something that already helps hold the form like when making sub enclosures. I had thought about doing something to block off the space behind there, carpet is a good idea.

RE: New Trunk Build/Setup
so you gonna make it removable? or just slaped in place?
i had my old side panels on some hinges so i could hide stuff behind the panels. tho some magnets would also work.....
