Keyless Entry, no stock radio

Keyless Entry, no stock radio
I just purchased an 01 Civic LX with an after market stereo. I want the keyless entry but I do not have the stock radio, so I can't install it behind as some people here have suggested. I could buy a stock radio, but I called a dealer and they said almost $400 just for the radio. So what is the best route? Just get an after market keyless entry system? Any suggestions on a cheap one?

RE: Keyless Entry, no stock radio
why would you need the stock radio for keyless entry? i have a 2005, took out the stock radio, and i still have the keyless entry. i think it was just the 1996-2000 that had that keyless entry integrated into the Headunit. im 100% positive on that, but i know mine's not like that and we are the same generation civics

RE: Keyless Entry, no stock radio
Only the 96-98's need the radio for keyless. If you have an LX it's all wired up though. Just find out what remote you need from your dealer and eBay it. $15 max. Then find a programming instruction on the internets.
Here's the instructions to reprogram the remote to your car:
1. Turn the ignition switch on (II on the ignition)
2. W/in 1-4sec, push the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver unit. (Just at the steering wheel is fine)
3. W/in 1-4sec, turn the ignition switch off
4. W/in 1-4sec, turn the ignition switch on(II)
5. W/in 1-4, push the transmitter lock or unlock button w/ the transmitter aimed at the receiver again.
6. W/in 1-4sec, turn the ign. switch off
7. W/in 4sec, turn the ignition switch On(II)
8. w/in 1-4sec, push the transmitter lock or unlock again.
9. w/in 4 sec, turn the ign off
10. w/in 4 sec, turn the ign ON
11. W/in 1-4, push the transmitter again
12. Confirm you can hear the sound of the door actuators. W/in 1-4sec, push the trans lock or unlock button again.
13. W/in 10sec, aim the transmitters (up to three) whose codes you want to store at the receiver, and press the transmitter lock or unlock buttons. Confirm that you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators after each transmitter code is stored.
14. Turn the ignition switch off, and pull out the key.
15. Confirm proper operation with the new codes

RE: Keyless Entry, no stock radio
I called a dealer and they seemed to ignore the whole FCC ID and whatnot with the remote and just wanted me to buy their remote for $80+. So how do I find out what type of remote if they claim to have no idea what I'm talking about?
