keyless entry does not work
here's my problem- i have a 96 coupe ex with keyless entry and recently installed an aftermarket head unit. little did i know you have to keep the factory unit in order to keep the keyless entry working. i threw the factory away, just bought one on craigslist, hooked it and it still doesnt work. WTF! can anyone help me- i do dont want to buy another alarm/keyless entry.
thanks

may sound sound dumb but did you plug both harnesses in to the back of the factory radio.
and it seems like I remember hearing somewhere that only radios out of a civic with keyless entry will work to keep your factory keyless working. but I'm not really sure if I remember that correctly.

there should only be one plug that has to do with the keyless entry system next to the radio harness.
and try reprogramming the transmitter. I just remembered that its the radio that stores the info for the keyless so if you have a new factory radio, the old transmitters wont work until you reprogram it. you will need access to the front of the stock radio, and while you have it out make sure all the plugs are plugged in.
follow this its straight from a helmes service manual
Note: -make sure to maintain the given time intervals between steps
-the valet switch is the skinny button between the AM/FM button and the CD/TAPE button
1. Insert the key into the ignition switch
2. turn the key to the ON position (II)
Within 10 sec go to step 3
3. Press and hold the valet switch for at least 5 seconds.
- You will hear the sound of the locks going to unlock.
- If the radio is on it will turn off then back on when registration is complete
Within 10 sec. continue to step 4.
4. press one of the transmitter buttons
- You will hear the locks going to unlock
note: If you want to program more transmitters (up to 4 total) repeat step within 10 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition key off. The registration is now complete.
After storing its code, make sure the transmitter works properly by repeatedly pressing one of the transmitter buttons. (the system starts to work after you hit any of the keys 6 times).
