Default Jensen subwoofer from circuit city

I am in a debate on just what type of sub to get. I just want a little thump with my music. I went to this concert and the bass was so intense you could feel your pants legs hit you with every beat not to mention every beat felt like someone hit you in the chest. It was great! Now I have a 10 inch sub on my surround sound system and now it sounds weak lol.

I found these and the reviews sound good enough and the price is great.

Any good? I can always take them back if I dont like them.

What do you all sugest? I do not want to spend any more than 200 bucks in total. See I plan to put a whole new system in my civic as the stock in this 2001 ex stinks! I want thump....These speakers have no bass.

With a subwoofer you get the subs and the box then you need a AMP to power the rated RMS now the max output as you can run at that but at the RMS. Correct?

In order to power a 400 watt rms sub set I would need at least 400 watts rms in a amp correct?
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/Expan...=9#custRatings

That would require two amps?

*bzzzzz!* *bzz!* *bzz!*

"Hey! Is that cowsgonemadd3's car a a block away?!"

*bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!* *bzz!* *bzz!*

"Yep"

Go quality for subs or not at all. If you want to toss some crap sub woofer into your car, save the annoyance and just get some good component speakers.

And always remember that the box is JUST AS IMPORTANT as the subwoofer and the amp.

Plus that thing is ugly as hell

Thank you lawlersauce!!!
I mean buying one of those BS Circuit City "kits" is like buying a ricer, all riced up, and taking credit for it.
Buy quality items!!!!! AND BE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT WHAT YOU"RE PUTTING TOGETHER!!!!
$200??? Come on man, read posts here and do your own research.
Check out crutchfield or forums here even (who woulda thought).

Okay what about a MTX
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-M...spagenameZWDVW

Also what should I look for in determining whats junk or not. Its not always the name that counts as you all know.

Generally if it is a Circuit City/Best Buy item, yes, the name counts.

They aren't going to have as much quality DUAL (quality + DUAL? LOL) as they do Alpine or Infinity.

I work at Best Buy and I will tell you the only subwoofers worth looking at are the Alpine, Infinity, or Rockford
Everything else we carry (at my store at least) is trash.

Main things for determining a good sub (I don't know a WHOLE lot, but I know what to stay away from):

-Max wattage (kind of)
} Very basic, but for you, is obviously enough, you are just wanting some boom
-RMS is the watts you really want to look for

Next is to the amp:
-Max wattage should exceed that for the sub, just to be safe
-Try to match your RMS as close as possible
-Don't buy a crappy off-brand name

BOX (VERY IMPORTANT):
-What kind of music do you mainly listen to? This will determine whether a ported or sealed box is for you
-Placement in your car
-Actual size of your car
-Material of the box (Please god, no effing plexiglass and LEDs)

Some other minor stuff include:
-Actual size of woofer (In my oppinion a good 10" setup can sound WAY WAY WAY WAY better than a mediocre 15"...I know from experience)
-Direction you are facing the woofer

Thanks for the info then. I have been looking and I might get a set of Infinity or Rockford. I might have to break the bank but I only want to break it once ha ha.

Now about those amps. Those get quite expensive too.

Do I need a amp that has at least the same RMS as the RMS on the subs or what? Those amps that say 800 watts max mean like what 400 watts rms?
