Default Headunit power help

hey, i finally decided to get a deck in my car, but i have a problem. I just got it all wired up, and turned the power on, and.. nothing. It happend with the last cd player i tried too. So ive narrowed it down to two things (if u have another idea lemme know). Either my battery sucks my nuts and i need a new one, or somethings wrong with the ground. One of my friends suggested that i run the red wire from the cd player (power) straight to the battery. Im about to try that right now, and ill let u know what happens, but whut else could it be? (checked all fuses)
