hmm, what's the difference?
i know there is a difference, but what is it?

are laser jammers effective, or do most cops use radar instead of laser?

As of right right now, the majority of police departments use Radar over Laser. To read more about radar guns:http://www.radarguns.com/radar-guns-faq.html

most radar detectors don't work too well. lots of false alarms and warns you when the radars are near but probably too late to slow down. i've heard great stuff about the valentine 1 detectors. take a look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIZ1Z...e=channel_page

i think in the long run its easier just to slow down??????

i learned my lesson after getting stopped for 109 in a 55 haha but i got off with a small fine and no points but i quickly learned to slow down.

I think radar detectors are completely worth it. Now, if you think it's the end-all-be-all of police avoidance, you will be WRONG. But I'd say 8/10 times I detect Johnny PoPo before they get me. How do I know? Well, often I can't even see the cop when it starts going off. I've had my radar detector detect a cop atleast a full mile before I saw him (we have randomally flat roads around TN). Other times, they will be sitting around a corner shooting from behind. There's not much you can do about that since the signal is traveling away from you. But when they point it at ya, it does a great job of picking it up.

If you travel in traffic everyday it's even more useful. Radar signals deflect off cars and you can often times pick up signals even farther away. PLUS, your chances of being singled out in traffic are much lower than when you are alone.

As for false alarms? Well, there are 3 major types of radar bands: X, K, and Ka. Most of the false alarms fall within the X-band and include store security systems, grocery stores, and random spots that'll set it off.

I have NEVER had a confirmed cop radar in the X-band, so I disregard every single one. ALL the cops I have ever witnessed use the K/Ka band, and my detector has a completely different sound for each band so I'm always alerted. Also, I have RARELY have a false alarms in the K/Ka band, anytime it goes off in that band it's either a cop or some punk *** kid with a home radar gun.

I have a cheapie cobra as well, paid like $45 several years back. They are worth it.

If i had a radar detector, both of my speeding tickets would have been avoided. both were gotten in rural areas (well, rural to me... more like, with no buildings around but just outside of the city) where I would have known nothing but a cop could have been setting it off.
In hindsight, I really should get one now that I think about it. lol
