got a free amp... some questions though
So while at work (residentual construction) the other day, the homeowner was cleaning out his garage... I'm washing out a cement mixer and the owner comes up to me with an amp in his hand and asks if I want it (cool guy, I ended up b/s-ing with him about bikes for a while after seeing his Hayabusa sitting in the garage). And, of course I took it.
It's a Virtual Reality sound lab 200w 2-channel amp. The guy said he didn't know if it still worked or not, but I figure if it does, I have a small amp to hold me over until I get a better one... if it doesn't, it's not like I paid anything for a blown amp.
Anyway, I need help figuring out what to wire where (I've never done anything with audio before other than wiring up head units)... I'm assuming the one labeled "power" goes to the battery, the one labeled "ground" gets grounded (what about the remote one?)... and obviously the ones labeled 4-ohm subwoofer go to the pos/neg terminals on the sub (hows that for lucky? The sub I have sitting in my room is 4-ohm)... but the ones labeled input and l-out... do they go to the head unit? Because that's what I'm assuming, but I very well could be wrong lol
(sorry for the newbie questions lol)

RE: got a free amp... some questions though
ok quick Breakdown...power obivously goes to the battery (make sure you have a fuse block somewhere in between ur battery and amp, under the hood is the most common location), for the ground make sure u have a nice bare metal location to ground the amp to wire brushes or bfscrewdrivers usually doo the trick for me, the remote wire goes to the blue wire coming off the back of your radio, red/white in/outputare the location for your RCA wires which also run to the "sub" output on the back of your radio(your only going to use one set of thos plugs red/white obviously), and the (+) and (-) are for the speaker wire that plug into the back of your subs...hope this helps...lemme know if you have any other questions

okay, thanks a lot... I was pretty sure about everything (except the remote thing) but just wanted to make sure before I went and hooked everything up.

the remote wire is the blue one in the back of the radio it sends radio signals from the head unit to the amp...it should come in your amp wiring kit....just run by walmart and pick up an amp wiring kit 8 gauge wire will work just fine....theyre like 30 bucks

RE: got a free amp... some questions though
if you have to run power wires for the amplifier might i sugest going ahead with a 4gauge kit.... and if you decided to upgrade later on then you dont have to worry abotu riping out the 8gauge and replacing it with 4gauge wires. best to have overkill then have to go back later and upgrade. hell i got 1/0gauge for my amplifier wiring.LOL huge overkill but with overkill you dont have to worry about needing larger wires later on for any changes....[8D]

Good advide, addiction... I'm definitely getting 4-guage wire... basically, this amp is just going to be there to hold me over until I get a bigger amp and better subs, so I'm definitely going to upgrade within a year.

RE: got a free amp... some questions though
I am totally for running the best wire possible to begin with because I made that mistake ONCE. I ran one wire, thinking that I would get by with a 4 channel amp and upgraded door/deck speakers.... Then, a few months later, it was not enough... so I ran ANOTHER wire for the subwoofer amp. That was a royal pain to have to undo everything and start snaking another cable....
Fast forward to now.... If I think I am going to do some upgrading, I start out BIG, that way I don't have the royal pain in the butt of running additional power wire.

the blue wire on the backof the radiois a power antenna lead
the remote turn-on wire is bluew/ white stripe.
if you hook it to the solid blue, the amp will only work when you are listening to the radio but not cd, ipod, etc..
or you can just go strait to the ignition
