Default Cool "Stolen Stereo" Decoy

Sorry in advance if this has been posted in the past, but I thought I should share. Check out this link: http://www.instructables.com/id/Fake-out-Stolen-Stereo/

Pretty sweet DIY to keep your stereo from being jacked, even if you take the faceplate off. Face it, crackheads are stupid and some probably don't know the unit won't work without a faceplate, so this little trick makes it look like your unit has already been stolen. It looks like he used an old faceplate case to make it, but I lost mine a long time ago. Does anyone have an idea for a substitute a can use to make this, just like off the top of your head? Like something I can buy at a store?

kinda interesting idea, but it looks like butt. If you are really that worried, you can just leave a stock radio or a crappy old cassette player in the normal dash spot, and relocate your real receiver to a different spot like the one right behind your cup holders.

I've seen lots of people put their stereo in this spot im sure you can find a DIY thread on some forum or another.

Thanks for the idea. Actually, made a fake stolen stereo just like that one several years ago (I've known about the link for years), and it actually looked pretty legit. Since I have tinted windows, they take away some of the viewing clarity so from the outside it actually looks kind of real.

wouldn't be so bad if it was just a faceplate cover that you just put on when you leave your car.

breaking into a car is personal ****, god help me if someone ever tries that on me

get you a security system and put a decal on your car that has something to do with guns.. after people read the back of my vehicle they don't even look over when they pass me lol..

edit..certain cd players and in dash units have something where you can track it or just like stock players when you take it out of your car it wont work when they plug it back in. I had an eclipse CD player that wouldn't work after you take it out of the car you put it in.
