BUT anyways you cannt just run a hot wire to the stock one... you need to put a INLINE FUSE from a few inches from the powers source to keep it safe! as long as you fuse it it will work great and trouble free if a problem happens where that new wire shorts out on something or what ever you have pluged into it shorts out...

i cannt find pictures of what im talking about BUT if you go to autozone or maybe walmart even.. go to the electrical stuff and find a CIG LIGHTER PLUG..... good ones have a small hinged lid on the front to cover the cig opening...
you can either use some screws to secure it under the dash OR just tuck it up under the dash to hide it and just zip tie it to some other wires or a brace..... that way you keep it hidden.

the fuse isn't to protect the device, it's to protect the cig lighter and wiring up to the cig lighter. i've seen it happen all too may times when people use their ashtray for holdign change and they accidently get a penny in the sig lighter and blow the fuse, if the fuse wasn't there, you'd fry the whole wire and risk a fire, IMO fuses are (as the previous poster said) "cheap insurance"

fuse ANYTHING you add extra to the car to the cars wiring! because lets say that extra wire gets rubbed up against some sharp metal brace... if you added a fuse next to where you got the power from then the fuse would simply POP and no harm... but if you didnt fuse it it would start to smoke/glow red hot and melt thru any surrounding wires shorting them out as well which would just spread and after it gets so hot FLAME that keeps spreading... next thing you know--- no more car just a pile of scorched steel and melted glass. the price of your ride UP IN SMOKE, when a cheap 5dollar inline fuse could have prevented. i cannt stress the importance of properly fusing everything enough!

I added a second "cig" 12v outlet to my car. I just didn't like having the phone charger hanging out of the dash. You could wire this either hot all the time (and fused) or just to the current lighter circuit. Plus, there are other things you may want to plug in. I know this has come in handy a few times. My wife and I can both have our phones charging since I have an extra outlet.
