Default Best Alarm System

I am looking for a new alarm system to upgrade my current system. I currently have a skytek two way paging with remote start system. and i am not satisfy with it. I am looking into getting either a viper or clifford. I want it to be a 2 way paging system and with remote start. What would you guys recommend. or what do you guys have. looking to spend about $300-$400.

anything DEI.... just search for paging systems. why are you not satisfied with that you got? the shock sensor is adjustable if its to sensitive or not enough, and paging distances are all pretty much the same.

i have had several units... all are dei like viper/hornet theres afew more dei names as well. the alarms are almost identical! only the remotes are slightly different like the buttons or the color on the case of the remotes everything else is the same.

but to save ya some cash just have your current alarm tweeked....

in addition to this thread... I have an 03 civic and i have a remote(stock) to open/ lock the doors with panic button... i realized just the other day that it was not working as an alarm.. I tried kicking the tires or shaking the car but alarm won't go off..

Is the stock alarm really an alarm or is it just used for remotely unlocking and locking the car??? or it is really an alarm but something is wrong with it??

stock alarms are mostly for remote locking and unlocking no shock sensor to them.

reason i want to change is because the screen on the pager is cracked, and the no panic button and lock and unlock is the same button. the buttons are layed out pretty badly. no trunk or hood sensor. just not cuttin it for me. so far i called a local shop that can sell me a clifford 50.5 for $520 installed. or a clifford 3.5 for $420. is that a good deal? which one is better? right now i am thinking about either viper or clifford? which do you guys prefer? Also, is the OLED paging alarms better?

Most factory alarms do not have shock sensors. To test your alarm, roll down your window, arm it, reach in, unlock/open your door. If your horn starts honking, you have a basic factory alarm. If you are able to open your door without using your key or keyfob, then you may only have a keyless entry system.

I stopped using shock sensors all together due to the fact that they cause me to ignore my alarm with all their false triggers. As an alternate route, I always install a battery backup module, an infrasonic sensor, and have the hood/trunk/door switches added or if existing connected to the alarm. The only downside to the infrasonic sensor is that it only works it works on air pressure and you must leave your vehicle completely sealed up (i.e. windows, sunroof, trunk, and doors must stay closed for it to work properly).

Other sensors I would choose in addition to the infrasonic sensor would usually include a digital tilt sensor, and/or an interior motion sensor.

i think i am pretty much set on the Clifford Matrix 50.5 because my friend is using it on his EVO 9 MR and integra and he said it was pretty good. now should i add one of these backup sirens Directed 515R. What other options should i be looking at?

IMO thats pretty high BUT thats typical cost to have them installed at a shop....

you can always save your hard earned money and do the instal yourself. if your car is already wired up for a remote starter/alarm system then all of the wires you need are next to the brain on the alarm.. then you just have to cut a wire and crimp the new wire on it... usualy all the alarm systems use the same color coding on the wires. some of the plugs might even just unplug and plug into the new alarm
siren is just as good if it works.... shock sensor is always wired the same and should work the same.... save yourself 250bucks!!!! if you can use a 12volt light tester and see colors and able to cut/strip and crimp wires together thats all you need to know!

and the backup battery/siren is actualy pretty weak. i have one and its so weak i decided not to use it!

what about one of these? i can get the clifford on sonic electronics for 230 and shop can install for 150 maybe a little less. that's about 380 total. what about one of these? http://cgi.ebay.com/CAR-ALARM-LOUD-M...QQcmdZViewItem

well MOST SHOPS charge MORE if you bring your own alarm....
those little peizo sirens ive heard are pretty loud... good to hide them under the dash or under the seats or anywhere you can think to put them

but like i said IMO just do the instal yourself if you already have a remote starter alarm system. its very easy!
