ok so im not really a electronic guy. So exactly what is Watt, Ohm, RMS, Power range, Frequency Response, sensitivity, Boost Frequency, and Voicecoil???????????????

If im missing any more electronic term pleaes add them to this post.

Can someone explain to me what all these mean???

here are some terms in a nutshell "ohm" is the resistance. "watt" is power, "rms" is normally the power handling before distortion, "frequency repsonce" is the hertz. "boost frequency" is not neccesarilly a norm term, and "voice coil" is pretty much is the part of the speaker that makes the sound hence the name "voice coil". You can find detailed terms at www.partsexpress.com you may call them also if you would like, they would be glad to speak with you.

 

So the higher the ohm the better it is right??? By the way resistence to what??? Watt is like the amout of power it use right??? So if i have a 1000rms sub then if can handle a 1000watt amp right???

 

NO! the lower the ohm the better. But be careful, If you are going to wires subs in parrellel make sure your amp can handle 2 ohms... better make it 1 ohm. Some amps can actually catch fire if they cant handle the resistance. Now, yes, pending on the brand it can handle a 1000 rms... but I doubt your amp. Unless its one of those top of the line rockford power amd or that two man handler JBL amp then it most likely is just fooling you. Generally what amp companies qoute is 30% more than what the amp can really do.

 

ahah... like remmy said..u wont lower resistance ..if u got alot of resistance u can over head the amp. but letting to low of a resistance can do it to..its a delicate process lol..

 

thats why i suggested 1 ohm so it can handle it. But I wouldnt get a cheap amp that can handle that low "ohmage" cheap amps are just as much junk as those "speed chip" resistors sold on ebay.
