what brand sub do you have because alot of manufacturers *cough*sony like to give their ratings in a very shady manor like 1600watts* and in the most discreet part of the instruction books it says *at 1/2 an ohm, but the amp is only stable at 4ohm or higher

i love the idiots who wire them at 1/2 ohms .. and sometimes when they say 1600watts it usually is PEAK power so you gotta watch it

When you are looking to match subs and amps, you at least need an amp that can power the sub's rms power. So if you have a sub that is 500 rms and 1000 max at 4 ohms, you need an amp that can at least push out 500 watts at 4 ohms. If the amp runs at 2 ohms, then 500 watts at 2 ohms would be more than enough power for that sub. ...i think.. lol

Lol I'd like to see someone wire a Best Buy amp at .5 ohms. I run my amps at .5 each but they are pure beasts .

Anyways look for RMS power not max. It is also known as nominal power. Match that, dual 4 sub you wire to 2 ohms and a dual 2 you wire to 1 or 4 so figure it out n match.

An amp that will put out 300rms at 2 ohm will be good enough for you. That is all you will need for those pioneer subs. Just about any amp out there will do that for you.

And 96vtech, you don't need an amp that powers a subs RMS power. It is more of a maximum amount of power you should throw at a sub, not a minimum. There is nothing wrong with giving a sub less than its rms rating. The worst thing that can happen is you will lose some output. Which is much better than blowing the subs voice coil.

If you are choosing between those two amps, go with the first one. You can wire them to a final load of 2 ohms together, or 4 ohms individually. But not to 2 ohms individually.
