RE: amp question
so r u looking for a 5 channel amp? or or are u just amping a pair of type r's? if ur amping 4 speakers and those subs id recomend a kicker 700.5 depending on the ohm load of those subs. everyone is going to have their own opion though. you should go to different shops and listen to amps.

RE: amp question
I've heard from many people that type R speakers sound sweet powered by a higher end alpine amp, I'd prolly power the speakersand subs seperately and get a capacitor for the sub amp; it can be easier to wire it all if you keep the 2 or 4 channel speaker amp for the type Rs under the dash or a front seat. And then just mount the sub amp on the box depending on what kind of box ur using.
I've got a pair of 6+1/2" 2-way Type Rs in the back of my '02 Si, with the stock components still in the front it all sounds sweet just running off my Premiere deck. (I've got another pair of type Rs I kept out of my last vechicle, but I haven't bothered trying to pull the whole door out to see if they'll fit yet.)
Sounds like you'll have a truly "silly-pants" amount of bass if you power those subs sufficiently! (no offense intended)
I'm with you on the crappy old amp situation tho, I've got an ancient Rockford Fosgate box under my hatch (2x 10" punch on a puny bridged 100W amp; sealed box). It's not loud but it fills the car suprisingly well without rattling anything!I'm planning on upgrading to an old single 10" solobaric as soon as I find a box and an amp for it...
